Legend Trailer Analysis

Legend Trailer Analysis

Legend featuring Tom Hardy is a film all about the Kray twins in the 1960's. The film is based around how the twins ruled London and the struggles that they went through on the rise up to the power that they held. It is also based around Ronnie Kray and the love affair that he has with his wife Francis. This film is in the genre of a gangster crime sort of film.
It is very clear through the trailer and the stereotypes that the trailer shows that it is going to be a film that has a love story behind it. From the first couple of seconds its clear that this is a gangster film with what the main characters are wearing. We are introduced to both Ronnie and Reggie Kray and they are both being drove around like they are royalty and both wearing very expensive suits showing that they are both important and wealthy which are both stereotypes of a gangster films. Also within the trailer there are short clips of fighting scenes with weapons involved as well this shows that this film is also partly a crime film with the fact that we also see that the police are involved at the end trying to track the twins down and arresting them. Normally within gangster films it is all about money and there is a part in the trailer where Ronnie Kray says "we are going to rule London" while there is a clip of bundles of money showing that this is fitting the general stereotypes of a gangster film. The fast intense music also shows that this film is going to be exciting.
There are many camera angles within the whole trailer but one that I picked out that occurs the most was a low angle shot. This shot was mostly used when either one of the Kray twins were speaking. This shot is used to show the audience who is the powerful one within the trailer and it is very effective. The Kray twins were very powerful people back in the 1960's so using this type of camera angle is perfect. The editing that this trailer uses is very fast pace and at one moment there is a lot happening at once, the editors have done this to create tension and to give the feeling to the audience that they should be on the edge of there seats with excitement. Overall I think that this trailer is extremely effective in all departments.
