Whiplash Trailer Analysis

The Whiplash trailer has got to be one of the best trailers I have seen in a very long time. It is very effective with the way it connects with the audience on many different levels. Whiplash is about a normal young boy who dreams to be the best one of the best drummers to have ever lived, he visits one of the best performing arts schools and this is where it all changes. Throughout the trailer there are many enigmas. From the start we are introduced to the characters and everything seems very normal, this is shown through the music in the background it is very slow and peaceful to show that the situation is normal. We meet the main character and what seems to be his partner within the first thirty seconds. We can then tell that there is a change in the mood as the music starts to suddenly get faster and more intense and this is when we are then introduced to the teacher at the performing arts school. At this part of the trailer we meet the teacher that could be the cause of all his problems within this film and this is clear when the mood suddenly changed from upbeat to down low and deep when the main character is slapped by his teacher. It shows that he is a very powerful person and that the student suddenly gets a reality change. At this part of the trailer it is clear that this is going to be the problem within the film this is because things start to go wrong for the main character as we see him tell his girlfriend that he feels he has to be apart from her to be able to become one of the best drummers in the world. The fact that there is a relationship within this film shows that it can suit all type of audiences including women because they are stereotypically more interested in romances than men.
This trailer is full of enigmas that the audience need answering. For example one question that could be asked that is very simple yet very effective is the teacher a good person or bad. Within the trailer he is clearly portrayed as both kind and harsh so the audience will want a clear answer and this is why they will go to watch the film. Another question that the I want to know the answer to after watching the thrilling trailer is do the main character and his girlfriend split up properly and if they do is there any possibility of them getting back together? Finally one last question that I feel like asking after watching the trailer is does all of his hard work and determination pull off and does he become one of the best drummers in history.

Digital Technology The software that I used for the construction of the film that we made was adobe premiere. It was very useful throughout the whole process. It helped us in creating a film that looked professional and not tacky. From right at the beginning it was very easy in finding out how to use the software and when you got the hang of it, you were able to use such things as animations, sounds and cropping clips. We used all three of these in the creation of our film. I did most the editing on our film which meant that it was up to me to make the film look professional. As I did most of the editing it meant that I felt more comfortable using the software adobe premiere. We also used YouTube to upload our film and make people able to watch it whenever they want.  For the creation of our film we didn't actually use much equipment. How have I improved my conventions of real media texts? In this post I will be talking about both my projects and how both of them look like professional media projects. For my first project which was my AS it was not very successful with looking like a real media project. It looked very fake and looked like there was not a lot of care taken with creating the titles for example. There were no animations that were involved in the titles they just appeared on the screen and this made it look really poor and uninteresting. However when it came to creating our A2 project my group made it known to each other that we must make the titles make look more interesting. We done this by adding animations to each one. For example on the first title that came up we used a fade in which meant the title disappeared into the back of the screen.
